Dolphins and Steelers Battle in NBC Sunday Night Showdown Betting

Steelers vs. Dolphins CashBet Wagering Analysis

Once upon a time, betting on NFL matchup between the Steelers and Dolphins was appointment viewing.  These teams are former dynasty franchises of the 1970s.  And that historical status is part of their public brands.  But in recent years, the Steelers and Dolphins have been maddeningly inconsistent.  Previously, Miami lost QB Tua Tagovailoa to a concussion.  With plenty of blowback on how the protocol was handled.  Meanwhile, the Steelers are suffering through a concussion to 1st-round draft pick QB Kenny Pickett.  Both QBs are day-to-day.

Steelers vs. Dolphins CashBet Wagering Analysis

Neither of these teams stands out as the best sportsbook online choice for the betting public.  Hence, betting action is expected to split along traditional lines.  Miami will draw the casual sector as home chalk.  In comparison, Pittsburgh will be shopped by bargain hunters as the road dog going up against inconsistent home chalk.

Steelers Shake Off the Rust with Upset of the Brady Bunch

Last time out, the Pittsburgh Steelers won 20-18 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers as 10-point home dogs.  The game went under the total of 46.  Pittsburgh has a record of 2-4 straight up, 2-3-1 against the spread, and 2-4 over/under the Betting on football total.  Pittsburgh ranks 29th for total offense, 25th for passing, 28th for rushing, and 30th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 29th overall, 30th against the pass, 18th against the rush, and 24th for points allowed.  Also, Pittsburgh ranks 23rd for turnovers lost and 6th for takeaways.

Namely, Mitch Trubisky stood on the sideline two weeks ago after losing his starting gig.  His prospects as an NFL starting quarterback are all but gone.  But Trubisky maintained his professionalism.  Most important of all, he assisted rookie Kenny Pickett in preparing to be the face of the Steelers.  But when Picket left the game with a concussion, Trubisky seized the moment.

Pittsburgh snapped a four-game losing streak behind 144 yards passing from Trubisky.  Thus, Pittsburgh avoided its worst start in 34 years by keeping Tom Brady in check for long stretches.  The 45-year-old struggled to have his way with a Steelers secondary missing four of its top five players.  Including star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Brady completed 25 of 40 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown.  But he saw drives bog down consistently in the red zone.  Four times Tampa Bay drove inside the Pittsburgh 20. Three times the drives ended with Ryan Succop kicking a field goal instead of an extra-point attempt.

Fish Fail to Swim Without Tua

Last time out, the Miami Dolphins lost 24-16 against the Minnesota Vikings as 3-point home dogs.  The game went under the NFL bets total of 44.5.  Miami has a record of 3-3 straight up, 3-3 against the spread, and 2-4 over/under the total.  Miami ranks 8th for total offense, 3rd for passing, 30th for rushing, and 17th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 23rd overall, 25th against the pass, 11th against the rush, and 26th for points allowed.  Also, Miami ranks 24th for turnovers lost and 28th for takeaways.

Miami had rallied behind Teddy Bridgewater, who returned Sunday from concussion protocol.  Following an injury to Skylar Thompson, Bridgewater was thrown into action.  Miami’s Tyreek Hill had 12 receptions for 177 receiving yards.  In comparison, Jaylen Waddle had six catches for 129 yards.  Mike Gesicki caught the Dolphins’ only two touchdowns.

Thompson started in place of Bridgewater and Tua Tagovailoa.  He didn’t return after injuring his thumb.  In turn, it was the fourth consecutive game a Dolphins starting quarterback was injured.  Bridgewater replaced Thompson with about 11 minutes left in the first half.  In sum, he finished with 329 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
