Thursday Night Football Week 14 Best Bets: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Minnesota Vikings Odds

Pittsburgh Steelers at Minnesota Vikings Against the Spread

On the whole, it is difficult to find two teams that frustrate gamblers more than the Steelers and Vikings.  Pittsburgh is an annual Super Bowl best vet on the futures board.  But for the past several seasons, that’s been based on the power of their brand.  To illuminate, the reality of the Steelers is that of a faux Super Bowl contender.  Pittsburgh’s offensive line is putrid.  First-round draft pick Najee Harris goes to waste as the Steelers running back.  And Ben Roethlisberger is too old to carry a team.  Meanwhile, the Vikings are a circus act.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Minnesota Vikings CashBet Wagering Analysis

Of course, the Steelers are one of the great power brands with the sportsbook odds.  Pittsburgh developed a worldwide fan base since the 1972 Miraculous Reception and the dynasty the followed.  Generations of Steeler fans will bet the black and gold regularly.  Counter to that is a Vikings team that used to be known for making and losing Super Bowls.  Minnesota’s current reputation is toxic to gamblers.  They find the Vikings a high-risk and low-reward team.

Steelers Make Final Push for Big Ben

Late on, the Steelers have covered two of their last three games.  Two of those games went over the total.  Pittsburgh is in 3rd place in the AFC North.  On Sunday, Pittsburgh beat Baltimore 20-19 as 4-point home dogs.  The game went under the total of 44.  Now, Pittsburgh is 6-5-1 straight up, 5-7 against the spread, and 4-8 over/under.  NFL metrics show the Steelers 22nd for total offense and 21st for scoring offense.  NFL Defensive rankings have Pittsburgh at 22nd overall and 21st for points allowed.

Of great concern for this game is that Ben Roethlisberger is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.  Earlier this week, it was announced this is likely Big Ben’s final season in the NFL.

Vikings Consistently Inconsistent

Minnesota failed to get the money in their two most recent games.  Also, the Vikings have gone over the total in three consecutive games.  Second place in the NFC North belongs to Minnesota.  Last Sunday, Minnesota lost at Detroit 29-27 as 7-point away favorites.  The game cleared a total of 47.5.  Accordingly, the Vikings are 5-7 straight up, 6-6 against the spread, and 7-5 over/under.  NFL rankings show the Vikings 6th for total offense and 11th for scoring offense.  While on defense, NFL metrics have Minnesota 30th overall and 25th for points allowed.

Since Kirk Cousins arrived for the 2018 season, the Vikings have been heavy favorites with the Super Bowl betting odds.  But the actual championship has never come close to fruition.  As a result, coach Mike Zimmer’s future is in serious doubt.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Minnesota Vikings Against the Spread

On the road, Pittsburgh is 57% against the spread.  While in non-conference action, the Steelers are 41% against the spread.  As an away team, the Steelers are 70% under the total.  Overall, in non-conference games, Pittsburgh is 72% under the total.

At home, Minnesota is 30% against the spread.  While in non-conference action, the Vikings are 50% against the spread.  As a home team, Minnesota is 61% over the total.  Overall, in non-conference games, the Vikings are 50% over/under the total.

In this situation, the Vikings are the better of two risky NFL gambling choices.  Cause by Minnesota being motivated to atone for their disastrous loss at Detroit.
