Bills Host the Dolphins on 2023 NFL Wild Card Betting Weekend

Certainly, the Dolphins have an enviable task on Sunday.  Miami is playing at the Buffalo Bills.  Miami barely got into the postseason and will be without the services of top QB Tua Tagovailoa.  The Dolphins are an excellent example of a team that likely doesn’t belong in the playoffs.  But the Fish got in because of the expanded betting on NFL format.  At the onset of the season, Buffalo was a top favorite to win the Super Bowl.  As the playoffs start, that has not changed.

Dolphins vs. Bills CashBet Wagering Analysis

Miami is a tough sell for gamblers based on the sportsbook branding of the two teams.  At the beginning of the wagering action, Buffalo was getting most of the handle.  The Bills have been favored to win the AFC all season.  And the recent saga with Damar Hamlin adds to their public appeal.  Specifically, the Dolphins playing in the brutal Buffalo climate against the dominant Bills appeals to nobody.  Sharps will assess the price to value with Buffalo.

Miami Barely Gets In But Deserves Credit for Doing So

Last game, the Miami Dolphins won 11-6 against the New York Jets as 3.5-point home favorites.  The game went under the Betting on football total of 37.  Miami has a record of 9-8 straight up, 9-8 against the spread, and 8-9 over/under the total.  Miami ranks 6th for total offense, 4th for passing, 25th for rushing, and 11th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 18th overall, 27th against the pass, 4th against the rush, and 24th for points allowed.  Also, Miami ranks 12th for fewest turnovers lost and 30th for takeaways.

The Dolphins offense was limited in their most important game of the season.  To illuminate, left tackle Terron Armstead was inactive, and rookie Skylar Thompson started at quarterback.  But with no turnovers and 152 yards passing, Thompson did just enough to get the first win of his career.

Thompson started his second game of the season.  After replacing the injured Teddy Bridgewater in last Sunday’s loss at New England.  Namely, Bridgewater, who dislocated the pinkie finger on his throwing hand, was in for Tua Tagovailoa.  Tagovailoa remains in the concussion protocol.  McDaniel did not say whether Tagovailoa might be available against the Bills.

Tyreek Hill was limited by an ankle injury sustained in the first half.  But he only briefly left the game.  He caught two passes on five targets for 23 yards, his fewest in a game this season.  Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson combined for 143 yards rushing.  While tight end Mike Gesicki led the Dolphins with 46 yards receiving.  Including a 32-yard catch in the fourth quarter.

Buffalo Looks to Pay the Postseason Bills

Last game, the Buffalo Bills won 35-23 against the New England Patriots as 8-point home favorites.  The game went over the NFL bets total of 44.  Buffalo has a record of 13-3 straight up, 8-7-1 against the spread, and 6-10 over/under the total.  Buffalo ranks 2nd for total offense, 7th for passing, 7th for rushing, and 2nd for scoring.  Defensively they rank 6th overall, 15th against the pass, 5th against the rush, and 2nd for points allowed.  Also, Buffalo ranks 30th for fewest turnovers lost and 10th for takeaways.

Buffalo’s Nyheim Hines returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown.  Following another Hines TD kickoff return of 101 yards, Buffalo fans were on their feet chanting ”Hamlin!  Hamlin!  Hamlin!” Meanwhile, Bills players held up three fingers in honor of the injured safety’s No. 3 jersey.  Buffalo QB Josh Allen finished 19 of 31 for 254 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
