Rahm and McIlroy Open as 2022 Memorial Betting Favorites This Weekend

Rahm and McIlroy Open as 2022 Memorial Betting Favorites

Namely, Jack Nicklaus remains the GOAT of golf.  For a while, it looked like Tiger Woods would surpass the Golden Bear with the Golf Betting Lines.  But Woods’ body has broken down.  Thus, he struggles to finish tournaments, let alone win them anymore.  Nicklaus is so huge to the game that he runs his own tournament.  The Memorial Tournament is one of the signature events of the year.  Most important of all, the Memorial Tournament is worth 550 FedEx Cup points.  Most PGA Tournaments are worth 500 points.  And then the major tournaments are 600 points each.

2022 The Memorial Tournament

When: June 2-5, 2022
Location: Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio
TV Coverage: CBS, GOLF Channel, ESPN+

2022 The Memorial Tournament – Overview

Founded in 1976, The Memorial Tournament quickly stood apart as one of the best online sportsbook events of the golf year.  Roger Maltbie won the inaugural Memorial Tournament, with Jack Nicklaus taking the 1977 win at his own tournament.  Nicklaus won The Memorial Tournament two times.  However, Tiger Woods has a record five championships in this event.

Last year Patrick Cantlay won The Memorial Tournament for the second time.  Jon Rahm was the 2020 winner.  Cantlay won in 2019, Bryson DeChambeau in 2018, and Jason Dufner in 2017.  In sum, The Memorial Tournament has a purse of $12 million.

The exclusive Muirfield Village is an upscale golf-oriented community in Dublin, Ohio.  At the onset of The Memorial Tournament, it was played at the Signature Muirfield Village Golf Club.  The course has also hosted the Ruder Cup, Presidents Cup, and the US Amateur.  Naturally, jack Nicklaus designed the course himself.  The signature Muirfield Village Golf Club course is a par 72 with a total of 7392 yards.

2022 The Memorial Tournament Top Contenders

At the beginning of the week, it was announced that Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, and Sam Burns would not be on the Golf Betting odds board.  The seven other players ranked in the top ten will be at The Memorial Tournament.

Rahm Takes the Point with Scheffler Absent

Leading the Official World Golf Ranking is Scottie Scheffler, who will not compete this weekend.  Second in the OWGR is John Rahm.  Rahm has spent most of the past two years in the top position on the OWGR.  Late on, Rahm has been struggling to find consistency with the Golf Betting Lines.  Rahm is coming off a 48th place finish at the US PGA Championship.  Previously he was the winner of the Mexico Open at Vidanta.  At The Masters Tournament, Rahm was a disappointing 27th.  Rahm has failed to finish inside the top-10 in six of his most recent eight events.

McIlroy Finds Momentum Heading Into The Memorial

Late on, Rory McIlroy has finished 8th or better in three consecutive events.  McIlroy ranks 8th on the Official World Golf Ranking.  His last win was at the CJ Cup Summit late last year.

Cantlay Limps Into The Memorial

Last time out for Patrick Cantlay was a missed cut at the US PGA Championship.  He finished second at the RBC Heritage.  But in the four tournaments before that, Cantlay finished 26th or worse.  Concurrently, Cantlay ranks 6th on the OWGR.

Spieth Seeks First Memorial Title

Overall, Jordan Spieth ranks 10th on the OWGR.  He has finished 7th or better in three of his last four tournaments.  Including a win at the RBC Heritage.
