Rory McIlroy Favored for Third RBC Canadian Open Title

2023 RBC Canadian Open CashBet Odds

At the onset, Canadians on the PGA TOUR hear the same question each year.  When will a home-grown talent finally win the RBC Canadian Open again?  The Golf betting lines of someone breaking through may be better than ever this year.  Namely, Brooke Henderson’s win at the CPKC Women’s Open in 2018 made her the first Canadian in 45 years to win that title.  However, no Canadian has won the RBC Canadian Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954.  And no Canadian-born golfer has won it since Karl Keffer

2023 RBC Canadian Open CashBet Odds Overview

Close calls have come and gone for Canadians at the RBC Canadian Open.  Mike Weir, in his prime, was the closest.  He lost a playoff to Vijay Singh in 2004.  David Hearn was in the final group Sunday in 2015, taking a two-shot lead into the finale.  Eventually, he finished third.  And then Amateur Jared du Toit was in the final group for the final round in 2016.  But he fell back to a Best Sportsbook online tie for ninth when the dust settled.

In 2022 the RBC Canadian Open returned to the PGA TOUR schedule after two years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Namely, Corey Conners fired a final-round 8-under 62 to earn the Rivermead Cup as a low Canadian.  He finished sixth.

Now at least 20 Canadians will play this year.  A big contingent playing in the final qualifier Sunday could push that Golf Betting odds number even higher.  Conners top the FedExCup rankings and the Official World Golf Rankings amongst his compatriots.

Rory McIlroy is looking to defend his back-to-back titles this week.  Last year he won by two shots over Tony Finau.  It was the 2nd time he’s won this event since 2019.  Of course, it was canceled in 2020 and 2021.

Consider that no golfer in the long history of the RBC Canadian Open has won the tournament thrice.  McIlroy, the only player to win the FedExCup three times, will try this year.  Steve Stricker was the last man to win the same tournament three times in a row on TOUR.  Specifically, Stricker captured the John Deere Classic from 2009-11.  Viktor Hovland, Sam Burns, and KH Lee all tried for three teams this season but fell short.  Previously, McIlroy fired a Sunday 61 to win by seven shots in 2019 and an 8-under 62 to win by two in 2022.

The RBC Canadian Open Golf Betting Lines tournament changes venues often.  However, Glen Abbey Golf Course has hosted it the most.  This will be the 1st time Oakdale Golf and Country Club hosts the RBC Canadian Open.  Hence, giving players a new challenge.  So it will be difficult to predict this year’s results based on recent finishes by players in the field.  In sum, Oakdale is a par 72 and plays at 7,264 yards.  It features small greens and plenty of elevation changes.

Before missing the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Tommy Fleetwood notched three straight top-20 Golf Betting Lines finishes.  Including a T-5 at the Wells Fargo Championship.  He’s among the best ball strikers on tour.

In like manner to his fellow Englishman Fleetwood, Justin Rose is also trending up with six straight top-36 finishes.  And with back-to-back top-12s.  Although it was a different course, Rose shot 10-under in the final round of last year’s RBC Canadian Open to finish 4th.

Last week there were a lot of high scores at Muirfield.  Including a 79 and 84 by Matt Kuchar on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.

Matt Fitzpatrick will be looking for the “RBC double.” To illuminate, Fitzpatrick won the RBC Heritage in a playoff over Jordan Spieth earlier this year.  And then he tied for 10th in Canada last year.  One week later won the U.S. Open.
