Purdue Led Big Ten Most of the Season

Many college basketball fans and gamblers are stunned at Purdue’s fade down the stretch.  The Boilermakers covered the top online sportsbook spread in only one of their final nine games.  Five of their last six tilts stayed under the total.  Purdue stands at 25-6 straight up, 13-16-2 against the spread, and 17-14 over the total.  Overall, out of 350 teams, Purdue had nation metrics of 7th for scoring offense and 171st for points allowed.  Purdue ranked 3rd in the nation for 3-point field goal attempts.  Jaden Ivey was the Boilermakers leading scorer at 17.2 points per game.

Illini Fights for Share of Big Ten Title

It was not pretty, but Illinois gained a share of the Big Ten regular-season title.  The Fighting Illini finished with a record of 22-8 straight up, 13-17 against the spread, and 17-12 over the total.  Accordingly, the Fighting Illini had national metrics of 52nd for scoring offense and 136th for points allowed.  Kofi Cockburn is a national sensation as one of the country’s top players.  To show, Cockburn led Illinois with 21 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.  Illinois covered only two of its final eight games.

Hawkeyes Sharpshoot To Contention

Iowa brings a 2022 March Madness betting record of 22-9 straight up, 19-12 against the spread, and 19-11 over the total.  Overall national metrics show Iowa ranked 5th for scoring offense but 238th for points allowed.  Iowa ranked an abysmal 287th for defensive rebounding.  However, the offensive boards were better, with a mark of 58th in the country.  Iowa covered seven of their final nine games.  Five of their last six games stayed under the total.  Namely, Keegan Morgan sparked Iowa with 23.3 points per game.

Bucky Badgers Flops at End

It is true that Wisconsin won a share of the Big Ten regular-season title.  But a season-ending home loss to Nebraska ruined the Badgers shot to be the lone champion.  And Nebraska is the worst team in the Big Ten.  In sum, Wisconsin finished with a bet on the NCAA basketball record of 24-6 straight up, 17-13 against the spread, and 19-11 over the total.  National metrics show Wisconsin 178th for scoring offense and 98th for points allowed.  Jonathan Davis led the Badgers with 20.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.

Ohio State Fades Down the Stretch

Late on, Ohio State failed to cover three of its final four games.  OSU finished 19-10 straight up, 15-14 against the spread, and 17-12 over the total.  National metrics have the Buckeyes at 107th for scoring offense and 158th for points allowed.

Sparty On and Off Heading into Tournament

Michigan State finished with a 2022 March Madness betting record of 20-11 straight up, 15-15-1 against the spread, and 16-14 over the total.  On the whole, the Spartans were one of the Big Ten’s most inconsistent teams.  MSU ranked 150th for scoring offense and 155th for points allowed.  But a Tom Izzo-coached team is always a threat to beat anyone it faces.
