FAU vs. San Diego State CashBet Wagering Analysis

In this situation, we have similar sportsbook brands.  FAU and San Diego State have come out of nowhere to make the Final Four.  Neither program has been on the radar of the casual sector.  Wise Guys liked both teams for being good and ignored.  Correlate that is a combination that often delivers strong board value.  Thus, the Aztecs became a small favorite based on the better-known Mountain West Conference.

Owls Become a National Hoot

Last weekend, the FAU Owls made 2023 March Madness betting history.  FAU beat Tennessee 62-55 as 4.5-point dogs in the Sweet Sixteen.  Following that was a 79-76 win over Kansas State in the Elite Eight as 1-point dogs.  The Owls have covered four of their previous five games.  FAU went under the total in five of their last seven outings.  Namely, Johnell Davis leads FAU State with 13.9 points per game.  Vladislav Goldin adds 6.6 rebounds per contest.

The FAU Owls are 28-3 straight up, 19-9-1 against the spread, and 16-12 over/under the total.  To summarize, FAU has national rankings of 26th for scoring offense, 41st for field goal percentage, 22nd for 3-point field goal percentage, 205th for free throw percentage, and 30th for offensive rebounding.

Meanwhile, on defense, FAU has national rankings of 60th for scoring defense, 40th for field goal percentage permitted, 145th for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 105th for defensive rebounding.

Aztecs Conquer New Territory

Last week in the Sweet Sixteen, San Diego State upset Alabama 71-64 as 6.5-point dogs.  In the Elite Eight, the Aztecs took out Creighton 57-56 as a 2.5-point bet on NCAA basketball dogs.  San Diego State got the cash in six consecutive games.  The Aztecs went under the total ten straight times.  Matt Bradley leads San Diego State with 12.5 points per game.  Nathan Mensah adds 5.9 points per contest.

Overall, the San Diego State Aztecs are 24-6 straight up, 13-14-2 against the spread, and 14-15 over/under the total.  San Diego State has national rankings of 148th for scoring offense, 155th for field goal percentage, 71st for 3-point field goal percentage, 125th for free throw percentage, and 143rd for offensive rebounding.

While on defense, San Diego State has national rankings of 37th for scoring defense, 82nd for field goal percentage permitted, 15th for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 16th for defensive rebounding.

Darrion Trammell knocked down his second free throw to push the defense-first Aztecs into their first Final Four with a 57-56 victory on Sunday.  Also, Lamont Butler scored 18 points, and Trammell had 12 for fifth-seeded San Diego State.  The Aztecs slowed down high-scoring, sixth-seeded Creighton.  Hence, they became the first Mountain West Conference team to reach the national semifinals.

The Aztecs, who got this far thanks to defense and physical play, held the Bluejays to 23 second-half points.  In turn, San Diego State shot 38%.  But they got clutch baskets.  Including Nathan Mensah, whose jumper gave the Aztecs a 56-54 lead with 1:37 left.
