Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway square off for the third time with the UFC Featherweight Championship on the line. The match is slated for July 2, 10:00 PM ET at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight is one of the main fights on the card that will also feature the bout between Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier for the UFC Middleweight title. After winning the first two matches between them, Volkanovski seeks to make it three in a row against the American and prove that he is the best featherweight in the world.
As for Holloway, a victory over the Australian MMA fighter will help him regain the 145-pound title he previously held. UFC odds and parlays see Volkanovski as the heavy favorite in this bout by virtue of his previous two wins against Holloway. His two previous title defenses were impressive and there is no reason for the fighter known as “The Great” to lose this encounter. As for “Blessed,” he needs to prove that his previous decision losses against Volkanovski were a fluke and a win would put him at the top of the division again.

Alexander Volkanovski – Out to Dilence His Critics
Since entering the UFC in November 2016, Alexander Volkanovski (24-1) has not lost in his 11 octagon fights, including two against Holloway and his successful title defenses against Brian Ortega and Chan Sung-jung. The Australian fighter, however, needs to prove that his victories against the American were not a fluke, especially in their second fight, wherein 18 of the 27 media outlets plus other MMA personalities gave the fight to Holloway.
In his fight against Ortega, Volkanovski proved that he is resilient as he survived all the submission attempts by his rival and mustered all of his offensive skills to win by unanimous decision. In his last fight against Chan, he showed his ability to strike against a known striker who previously held the fastest knockout in UFC history. He finally ended the match in the fourth round, as the referee had seen enough beating on the South Korean and called it a halt. Volkanovski needs to earn a clear-cut victory over Holloway and prove once and for all that he is the best featherweight in the world.
Max Holloway – Boxing His Way to Another Title Opportunity
After losing to Volkanovski two straight times for the UFC featherweight title, Max Holloway (23-6) earned another title opportunity by beating Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez. In his fight against Kattar, Holloway dominated his foe en route to a unanimous decision win. The judges lopsidedly scored the bout 50-43 50-43 50-42 in his favor as Kattar was simply no match for the former champion, who set single-fight records for total strikes landed and attempted, significant strikes landed and attempted, strike differential, distance strikes landed and significant head and body strikes landed.
Against Rodriguez, the American showed his full MMA skills to outclass his foe and won by unanimous decision. The victories propelled him for another title clash against Volkanovski in UFC 272 in March but Holloway pulled out due to injury. Almost four months later, Holloway will step to the octagon again with the aim of vanquishing the Australian and capturing the UFC gold once more.

Volkanovski vs. Holloway Surname Summary
If the previous two fights lasted the distance, expect the third to be just the same. Both Volkanovski and Holloway are known for their endurance and conditioning so expect another five-round classic between the two featherweight greats. UFC fight picks see this fight as a toss-up with Holloway finally getting the victory over Volkanovski via split decision. The Australian, however, can win the fight if he can counter the American’s boxing skills and force him to the mat. Both protagonists are top-caliber fighters and the match is expected to contend for the fight of the year honors.
