UFC and MMA Betting
Some would think watching two grown men beating each other into a bloody mess would be fun enough. But we are not some; you like to bet on UFC and MMA. And we, that is CashBet, like to allow you to go ahead and do just that. Let’s start from the beginning, however. Maybe you have never bet on MMA or UFC. Perhaps you would like to do so. Mayhaps you do not know how to go about it. If that is the case, then stick around as we delve into the inner workings of betting on mixed martial arts and Ultimate Fighting Championship.
UFC Types of bets
Moneyline. If you have gambled before, not on the UFC, but in general, then you are familiar with the term moneyline. The moneyline is the same with MMA as with any other sport, though it is more akin to, say, tennis. Instead of betting on a team to win, you bet on an individual to win. Let’s take for example a bout between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez.
- Conor McGregor -160
- Eddie Alvarez +140
The minus sign next to Mac’s name means that he is the favorite to win the match. The plus sign next to Eddie’s name means that he is the underdog; ergo, not the favorite to win the match. The numbers next to the minus and plus signs represent the amount of money you have to risk or stand to win depending on whom you bet. That is because betting on the fave is not the same as betting on the dog. If it were, most people would probably bet on the former and not the latter. To make the underdog more alluring, sportsbooks like CashBet put you in a position where you could win more while risking less. In this case, if you bet $100 on Alvarez and he upsets Conor, you win $140. But in order to win $100 from a McGregor win, you would have to bet $160.

Over/Under. Even though the name is the same, this differs from the usual over/under bet. In team sports, this would be known as the total, and you would bet on whether the amount of points scored by two opposing teams goes higher or lower than a given number. But fighters are not scoring points, at least not in other sports’ sense of the word. Here, what you are betting on is the number of rounds the match goes. Non-title matches generally are scheduled for three rounds and title matches to five, but there are exceptions. Now, these are the maximum possible rounds; the minimum could be less than one round. For instance, CM Punk lost his UFC debut by submission barely after the bell sounded. Sportsbooks such as CashBet sportsbook usually set the total at 1.5 rounds for a three-round fight and 2.5 rounds for a five-round fight.
Finish method. In addition to the aforementioned method of submission (a fighter clearly taps the mat or his opponent, verbally submits, or clearly communicates his desire to submit), an MMA fight can end via knockout (If a fighter loses consciousness as a result of legal strikes), technical knockout (if a fighter cannot intelligently defend him or herself while being repeatedly struck), decision (depending on the judges’ scoring) and disqualification (a fighter intentionally executes an illegal move). DQ is seldom offered as a betting option. When choosing a method of victory, bettors would also have to specify whether the win comes from, using the same example, McGregor or Alvarez.
Props. An exception to the last line of the preceding paragraph would be prop bet. In particular one in which you bet on the method of finish but not on a specific fighter. Therefore, if you bet on a knockout, you would win if Mac knocks Eddie out or if Eddie knocks Mac out. Basically, a prop bet is a prop bet if it doesn’t include who wins the fight, with over/under being an exception.
Parlays. This entails several bets in a single fight or single bets across several fights or both. In short, you take more than one outcome and combine it into a multiple stake. You can start with two bets and go from there as long as you feel inclined to.
