NHL Playoff Betting: Flames vs. Canadiens Previews, Game Analysis and Odds

Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens

After spending their first six games of the new NHL Season on the road, the Montreal Canadiens are finally headed back home in Quebec looking to stretch their impressive run. The Canadiens are currently at second place in the North Division with a 4-0-2 record, which they will put on the line when they host the Calgary Flames on Thursday. The visitors seek to get back on the winning track after losing back-to-back games to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

They are currently at a tough position at sixth place in the division with a 2-2-1 card after five games. The competition on ice is taking on a higher level as the NHL Regular Season goes on. The supremacy in the North remains up for grabs despite the diverse positions that the Flames and Canadiens are into date. Montreal playing its home opener against a bounce-back-seeking Calgary means a treat for all NHL fans.

Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens CashBet Wagering Analysis

The Canadiens are -127 favorites to win in their first game at the Bell Centre, and that’s not really surprising at all. A pair of explosive wins to cap a three-game battle against the Vancouver Canucks earned Montreal the entitlement to open the games of their home arena with the advantage in odds, as offered in sportsbooks for the NHL Betting Lines.

The visiting flames are pegged at +113 as underdogs as their struggles to start the season continue to pile up. The total line is offered with even prices at over/under six goals. Both teams are coming off separate high-scoring matches that went over the total market line. Scoring is not really a challenge for them and bettors could expect the same trend to continue on Thursday.

Frustration Mounting for the Flames

The Flames put up a worthy fight in their last two games, but each was not enough to escape past the Toronto Maple Leafs. The back-to-back losses were painful in itself, but adding insult to the injury was that the early setback has placed Calgary on a tough trailing position behind their dangerous rivals in the division.

Johnny Gaudreau has been on a personal point streak, but he is far from happy with the way his team plays. According to him, the Flames should play with more sense of urgency. He lamented how the team is being forced to make extensive runs after their series of slow starts. For him, Calgary should put a stop to that kind of trend and start playing with more determination right at the onset of every game.

Canadiens Counting on Toffoli

The Canadiens are just trailing the Maple Leafs by two points at the top of the division ladder. Montreal has amassed a total of 12 goals from their two consecutive lopsided victories over the Canucks. At the forefront of their vicious attack was newly acquired right wing Tyler Toffoli, who just joined the team for a four-year, $17 million deal in October when he was an unrestricted free agent.

The veteran skater has accounted for five goals and eight points already to lead the team, and that was enough for him to earn the league’s first star of the week recognition. The 28-year old did not have a hard time in his transition into a new home in Montreal as his quick adjustment has already yielded quick dividends for the team. The year has just started but Montreal fans must be elated with the type of play that Toffoli is providing their squad.

The Canadiens served a red alert to the rest of their rivals in the North by serving an outstanding performance while on the road to begin the season. It was a dangerous warning. And now that they are finally playing their first game at home, spectators should expect Montreal to take their level of play a notch higher. The Calgary Flames will be the Canadiens’ first victims at the Bell Centre this season. Tyler Toffoli will not let go of the gas pedal and will continue to lead the attack for Montreal. It’s an easy call. First home game, another W for the Canadiens.
