Thursday Night Football Betting Week 2: Bengals vs. Browns NFL Odds and Picks

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns NFL Best Bets

It would be difficult to find more inept franchises than the Browns and Bengals.  Cincinnati and Cleveland have shared the same division since 1970.  First-week results were the same as they have been for the past few seasons.  Both teams suffered NFL betting losses straight up and against the spread.  Cincinnati had a chance to tie their game to send it into overtime.  However, Randy Bullock missed a 31-yard field goal as his leg cramped.  Cleveland never had a chance in a blowout loss at Baltimore. Subsequently, each club does have young quarterbacks of the future.

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns CashBet Wagering Analysis

On this occasion, gamblers may be scratching their heads.  How could Cleveland be a 6-point Best sportsbook online favorite over anyone?  At first glance, it makes no sense.  But the odds are based on public perception.  Cleveland is often touted as a potential sleeper team with quarterback Baker Mayfield.  The third-year pro has plenty of raw ability that attracts squares.  Last year’s Heisman trophy and national championship quarterback Joe Burrow is a raw Bengals rookie.  By contrast, Cincinnati is seen as an even worse team than Cleveland.  Which makes this line a handicapping riddle.

Still the Bungles for Now

First game for Cincinnati was a 16-13 loss to the Chargers as 2.5-point home dogs.  Under the Betting on NFL total of 41.5 paid too.  Los Angeles outgained Cincinnati 362-295.  Most important of all the Bengals had a -2-turnover margin.  Burrow’s initial on the job rookie training had mixed results.  He was 23 of 36 for 193 yards with one interception. Running back Joe Mixon had 69 yards on 19 carries.  Second-year coach Zac Taylor faces a long rebuild.  Whether he survives or not is debatable.  Taylor has not been given a roster that can win.

New Coach but Same Results

Namely, new Browns coach Kevin Stefanski got a lesson on why he is there.  Cleveland was destroyed in a 38-6 pro football betting loss at Baltimore in week one.  The game stayed under the total of 47.  Ravens backers had an easy 7-point lay.  In sum, the Browns committed three turnovers and eight penalties.  Baker Mayfield was 21 of 39 passing for 189 yards with a touchdown and interception.  Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson lit up the Browns for 20 of 25 and 275 yards passing with three touchdowns.  Stefanski learned why his predecessors never last long at Cleveland.

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns Against the Spread

Overall, the Bengals have been a solid football betting value as road dogs.  Cincinnati has covered eight of their last 11 in that role.   Just one of their last 10 as road pups cleared the total. In a similar way, the Bengals are 12-6 vs. the odds at AFC North teams.   And are 4-10-1 under the total at the AFC North.

In sum, the Browns are 5-4 on the board when hosting AFC North teams.  Cleveland is 2-8-1 under the total in that role.  Specifically, as home chalk, the Browns are 5-4-1 against the spread.  Cleveland is 5-2-1 over the total in that way.

Head to head the Bengals have covered five of six at Cleveland.  This series is 1-5-1 under the total at Cleveland.  Cincinnati has paid in nine of their last 11 with the Browns.  And then this series is 0-4-1 under the total in the last five meetings.

As was previously noted the Bengals have shown good NFL gambling value against Cleveland.  So too has Cincinnati been a strong road dog.  The number is too expensive for such an unreliable Browns team.
