Giants Visit Commanders on NBC Sunday Night Football Betting Week 15

Giants at Commanders CashBet Wagering Analysis

Despite having the worst owner in sports, the Commanders are in NFC playoff contention.  The reason for the revival is head coach Ron Rivera.  Rivera led the Carolina Panthers to some of their best seasons in franchise history.  And it is Rivera that is overcoming the negativity of Snyder.  Instead, Rivera leads one of the biggest surprise teams in 2022.  Meanwhile, the New York Giants are trying to regain betting on NFL momentum.  Rookie head coach Brian Daboll got Big Blue off to a strong start.  Late on, the G-Men have found winning a much more difficult challenge.

A Giant Leap Backwards

Last game, the New York Giants lost 48-22 against the Philadelphia Eagles as 7.5-point home dogs.  The game went over the Betting on football total of 44.5.  New York has a record of 7-5-1 straight up, 9-4 against the spread, and 4-7-2 over/under the total.  New York ranks 23rd for total offense, 28th for passing, 6th for rushing, and 20th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 26th overall, 17th against the pass, 29th against the rush, and 20th for points allowed.  Also, New York ranks 2nd for turnovers lost and 23rd for takeaways.

Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor threw touchdown passes for the Giants.  In turn, the have one win in their last six games.  While the hopes of their first playoff berth since 2016 are slipping with four games remaining.  Coach Brian Daboll said his team has to learn from this game and move on quickly.

The Giants’ third possession had an absurd ending.  To show, Jamie Gillan lost the ball as he went to punt.  The ball bounced, and he kicked it 15 yards to the Eagles’ 42.  It was an illegal kick.  As a result, the Giants were penalized 10 yards with a loss of down.  Hurts hit a wide-open Brown for a 21-0 lead on the next play.

Washington Develops a Command Presence

Last game, the Washington Commanders tied the New York Giants 20-20 as 2.5-point road favorites.  The game was a push on the NFL bets total of 40.  Washington has a record of 7-5-1 straight up, 7-5-1 against the spread, and 4-8-1 over/under the total.  Washington ranks 21st for total offense, 23rd for passing, 14th for rushing, and 25th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 4th overall, 8th against the pass, 8th against the rush, and 10th for points allowed.  Also, Washington ranks 12th for turnovers lost and 21st for takeaways.

Neither team had a realistic chance to score in the 10-minute overtime.  In OT, New York rookie linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux had a blindside sack on Taylor Heinicke at the Commanders’ 1-yard line.  But all that did was help set up a long-shot 58-yard field goal attempt by Graham Gano as time expired.  Previously, Gano had hit from 48 and 27 yards in the opposite direction.  He estimated his maximum range in that direction was 53 yards.  Gano’s kick dropped five yards short.

To summarize, Heinicke threw two touchdown passes for Washington.  And he hit a crucial fourth-down pass on a tying 90-yard touchdown drive.  That drive featured Heinicke rolling to his left to hit Curtis Samuel for 20 yards on a fourth-and-4 play from his own 27 with less than three minutes to play.  Heinicke finished 27 of 41 for 275 yards with two touchdown passes.
