2023 Farmers Insurance Open Top Contenders

At the onset, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Patrick Cantlay have surprisingly elected to skip this event.  Hence, that leaves Jon Rahm as the lone Official World Golf Ranking top-5 player to tee it up this week.  Rahm will be joined by Xander Schauffele, Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas, and Collin Morikawa to represent five OWGR top-10 players in the field and the presumptive favorites.

Second-tier players include Tony Finau, Sungjae Im, Max Homa, Jason Day, and Taylor Montgomery.  Specifically, these players figure to post at the top of the Golf Betting odds board.

Rahm Takes the Point With Hot Hand

Namely, Jon Rahm is considered by most players to be the top player with the Golf Betting Lines.  Rahm was best known for his 43 weeks on top of the Official World Golf Ranking three years ago.  In sum, Rahm has nine career PGA Tour wins.  His lone major championship was at the 2021 US Open.  Rahm was the 2021 PGA Player of the Year.  He begins the 2023 campaign ranked third on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Late on, Rahm is in excellent form with four wins in his last six outings.  Rahm is coming off a win at the American Express in week 3 of 2023.  Previously he won the Sentry Tournament of Champions in the opening week of the New Year.  Rahm was eighth at the Hero World Challenge and the DP World Tour Championship winner.  Also, he was 4th at the CJ Cup in South Carolina and won the Acciona Open De Espana.

Xander Schauffele Shows Well

In sum, Xander Schauffele has five top-9 or better finishes in his last six starts.  Schauffele is coming off a 3rd-place finish at the American Express.  He had to withdraw from the Sentry Tournament of Champions.  Previously he was 4th at the Hero World Challenge, 9th at the ZOZO Championship, 6th at the TOUR Championship, and 3rd at the BMW Championship.  Schauffele has seven career PGA wins.  He is seeking his first major championship at age 29.  Accordingly, Schauffele is 6th on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Will Zalatoris Fights Inconsistent Period

Following his win at the FedEx St Jude Championship, Will Zalatoris has had a bad stretch of inconsistent play.  To show, he had to withdraw from the BMW Championship.  And then he was 11th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and 36th at the American Express.  Zalatoris has one career PGA Tour win.  He was the 2020-21 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.
