2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Overview

Namely, the Rocket Mortgage Classic is a relatively new tournament that began last year in place of the Quicken Loans National.  The Detroit Golf Club is a private course that was established in 1899.  The Detroit Golf Club began seeking out a PGA Tour event 10 years ago.  As a result of those efforts, it landed the Rocket Mortgage Classic last year.   FedEx Cup standings leader Webb Simpson headlines this event.  Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed are the other top ten players taking part in this tournament.

Top Three Contenders for the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic

Bryson DeChambeau Rides Good Form to Favorite Status at Detroit

Account of six consecutive top eight or better tournaments is Bryson DeChambeau favored this week.  DeChambeau is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Travelers Championship.  He is 12th in the FedEx Cup standings and 11th on the Official World Golf Ranking.  An alum of SMU, DeChambeau’s best finish for 2020 was second at the World Golf Championships Mexico Championship.  In sum, DeChambeau has won over $3.1 million in earnings this year.  He has seven top-ten finishes for the 2020 PGA Tour.

Webb Simpson Atop FedEx Cup Standings

First place in the FedEx Cup standings is Webb Simpson.  Simpson is ranked in the Wyndham Rewards top ten.  And he is ranked fifth on the Official World Golf Ranking.  The Wake Forest University alum has two sports betting wins for 2020.  He was the winner of the RBC Heritage and the Waste Management Phoenix Open.  Also, he finished number two at the RSM Classic.  Simpson has seven career PGA Tour wins.  He has finished top ten in six of his last eight tournaments.  It follows that he has won over $4 million this season.  Simpson boasts a scoring average of 68.662.

Patrick Reed Limps in at Expensive Price

Although he is ranked seventh on the Official World Golf Ranking Patrick Reed is slumping.  Last week at the Travelers Championship Reed finished 24th.  He has flopped miserably with the PGA odds in his last four tournaments.  To show Reed has finished no better than 15th in six of his last seven tournaments.  Reed did post a win at the World Golf Championships Mexico Championships.  Overall, he has won over 3.5 million in 2020.  He is fifth in the FedEx Cup standings.
