Wisconsin Badgers Odds and Predictions for the 2022 Season

Namely, Graham Mertz is the highest ranked quarterback recruit in Wisconsin Badgers history.  Mertz lit up the Illinois Fighting Illini in his initial start.  He was so great that he earned a prime time tweet from Patrick Mahomes.  However, that 2020 season opener was the peak of Mertz’s career.  Mertz has struggled for the past two seasons.  And Wisconsin struggled to accommodate his unique skills.  Last year the Badgers flopped out of the College football betting gate.  Head coach Paul Chryst returned to Neanderball as a response.  And it worked.

Certainly, being among the top 25 has been a point of pride.  Once upon a time, the Badgers were among the worst Betting on NCAAF programs.  Barry Alvarez arrived in 1990 to work one of the greatest turnarounds in college football history.  But it’s been tough to come up with the magic to break back through.  So the question remains, what will it take to reach the CFP Promised Land?

Wisconsin has always used the run to set up the pass.  And it worked.  Last year they tried the opposite, and it was a disaster.  A power running game is what Wisconsin does.  And it should be able to do that again with a great group of running backs and the traditionally large and dominant offensive line.

Hence, getting too down on a program for a 9-4 season with a bowl victory is hard.  But Badger fans want to return to owning the Big Ten West again.  In sum, there will be a great ground game, the defense will be a rock, and the passing attack should improve.

At the beginning of 2022, UW gets three nice tune-up games in Illinois State, Washington State, and New Mexico State.  Next is the Big Ten opener at Ohio State.  Win that, and 2022 could be the dream season.
