Head coach Steve Sarkisian has a slew of all-star talents across the bet on NCAAF board.  And he’s got the skill guys that could and should be as good as any in the country.

Now, Ohio State transfer QB Quinn Ewers gets to show what he can do.  He is back home in the Lone Star State.  After cashing in on the Buckeye bench for NIL cash in 2021.  Ewers ranks as the equal of Manning as far as prospects go.  He arrives from Ohio State as one of the most talented quarterbacks the program has ever had.

The receiving weapons are multiple.  Xavier Worthy is a First Team All-Big 12 talent.  Last year he totaled 62-catches for 981-yards and 12 touchdowns.  And he has plenty of help in the receiver room.

Defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski had a year to try building up a weak defense that should be improved.  Certainly, Texas must be far stronger after finishing 100th in the country and allowing 31 points per game.  Texas has been good enough to play for the Big 12 Championship for several years.  But it hasn’t been there since 2018 and hasn’t won the conference championship game since 2009.  But with all of that going for them, Texas has rarely hit the mark.  Indeed Texas remains an underachieving program.

Last year Steve Sarkisian took over with great fanfare.  But a heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma caused the season to implode.   Sarkisian was feeling the flames on his butt before the season even concluded.  Texas remained soft with one of the worst defenses in the nation.  However, Sarkisian got the offseason he needed.  Texas landed a top-five recruiting class loaded with offensive and defensive linemen.  Further help comes from former TCU head coach Gary Patterson as a special assistant.
