Jimbo Fisher has been good but not great at Texas A&M. So far, the NCAAF bets record shows Fisher isn’t much better than his predecessor Kevin Sumlin. In turn, Fisher and company just came up with one of the greatest bet on NCAAF recruiting classes in the history of the sport. While A&M might have had an all-time class, they must replace almost the entire defensive front six. Additionally, the offense has to be more explosive.
Overall, A&M has a history under Fisher of coming out and playing solid football versus outclassed teams in the first game. As mentioned earlier, Sam Houston is a quality FCS program. But they’ve lost some major contributors from last season. Most important of all, they lace lack size on defense. Texas A&M had national championship dreams when it hired Fisher. Now they believe they are closer than ever. Last season, when they defeated Alabama, it was a signature win for Fisher’s program.
Receiver Ainias Smith leads a strong contingent of returning starters. Also back is All-America defensive back Antonio Johnson. And 2021 Freshman All-America offensive linemen Bryce Foster. Further quality comes from Reuben Fatheree II. Equally important is that Texas A&M gets a transfusion of elite talent from that top-rated recruiting class.
Defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin led top-15 units at Florida in 2013 and 2014. Also, he turned that trick at Michigan in 2015. Now, Durkin is tasked to do the same at Texas A&M. Consider that Durkin has plenty of depth and talent to utilize.
