Several sports betting events have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic but MLB and NBA along with the others have already taken its course. 2020 has been a year with ups and downs right from the beginning, especially since the sports industry has been affected. However, there has been a turn in such events and College Football betting is finally around the corner. SMU Mustangs and Texas State Bobcats will square-off in the opening game of the season. The game is all set to be held at the Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.
SMU Mustangs vs. Texas State Bobcats Betting Analysis
The Mustangs did well under the leadership of Sonny Dykes. SMU held a 10-3 record which was not achieved until 1984. With a 6-2 record in the AAC Conference, SMU made it to the Boca Raton Bowl to play against FAU. The Mustangs were unable to win their game against FAU, but this time they are all set to kick-off with their best efforts. SMU is back with their starting quarterback Shane Buechele, who threw 3929 yards with 10 picks and 34 touchdowns. The Mustangs have TJ McDaniel to support Buechele from the rushing end. McDaniel was unable to do much last season with just 41 carries in 236 yards.
Texas State Bobcats will continue under the leadership of Jake Spavital for the second year. The last season did not go as expected for the Bobcats when they completed with a 3-9 record. Texas State had a 2-6 record in the Sun Belt Conference play and they finished at the second last spot. The offensive end was not strong enough for Texas as they ended up with just 318 yards per game. There are a few changes on their squad as Hutch White is not a part of the receiving corps.
Brady McBride might be the new quarterback for Texas State this season. Last year, Tyle Vitt threw close to 1,600 yards for the Bobcats which was not enough. Washington State’s transfer Drue Jackson is expected to play an important role, while Javen Banks and Trevis Graham are the other notable names. Leading rusher Robert Brown Jr. is all set to continue his position for Texas State. Brown had 28 carries last season with 161 yards and a single touchdown.
SMU Mustangs vs. Texas State Bobcats Pick
The NCAAF pick for this match is SMU Mustangs -22. Texas State Bobcats are bringing back their running back from last year and their quarterback is still a question. The Bobcats lacked the offense last year which is most likely to happen once again. SMU Mustangs have been consistent enough to earn an invite to the Boca Raton Bowl. The Mustangs will have a better go at this game. If the Bobcats have Vitt as their quarterback, things are going to fall way out of hand. Final Score Prediction, SMU Mustangs win and cover the spread 48-7.
