Miami Hurricanes vs. Houston Cougars Betting March Madness

Houston came out of the first March Madness betting weekend as expected.  To show, the Cougars advanced past Northern Kentucky and Auburn.  On the whole, the Cougars wore down the Auburn Tigers in the second round.  But it was a proving ground against a dangerous opponent.   The Tigers led at the half and had Cougar fans on edge.  But Houston coach Kelvin Sampson made the right adjustments, and his players delivered in the clutch.  Now comes the Sweet 16 and a Friday night matchup against the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami vs. Houston CashBet Wagering Analysis

For those who doubted Houston as an American Athletic Conference bully, the Cougars proved their mettle.  Houston’s Bitcoin sportsbook win over Auburn demonstrated how hard they are to beat.  But Miami impressed sharps with payouts over highly regarded Drake and Indiana.

The U Swaggers Into Sweet Sixteen

Late on, Miami has covered its last two games.  The Hurricanes went under the 2023 March Madness Betting total in three of their previous five outings.  Isaiah Wong leads Miami with 16.1 points per game.  Norchad Omier adds 10.1 rebounds per contest.

Overall, the Miami Hurricanes are 24-6 straight up, 18-12 against the spread, and 13-16 over/under the total.  Miami has national rankings of 24th for scoring offense, 18th for field goal percentage, 42nd for 3-point field goal percentage, 12th for free throw percentage, and 154th for offensive rebounding.

While defensively, Miami has national rankings of 233rd for scoring defense, 258th for field goal percentage permitted, 124th for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 60th for defensive rebounding.

Cougars Flash Number One Ranked Quality

Late on, the Cougars got the cash in only two of their previous eight games.  Houston went under the bet on NCAA basketball total in four of their last six outings.  Marcus Sasser leads Houston with 16.9 points per game.  J’Wan Roberts adds 7.9 rebounds per contest.

Overall, the Houston Cougars are 29-2 straight up, 17-14 against the spread, and 14-16 over/under the total.  Houston has national rankings of 77th for scoring offense, 45th for field goal percentage, 133rd for 3-point field goal percentage, 165th for free throw percentage, and 19th for offensive rebounding.

In turn, defensively, Houston has national rankings of 2nd for scoring defense, 2nd for field goal percentage permitted, 2nd for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 10th for defensive rebounding.

Tramon Mark scored a career-best 26 points.  At the same time, Marcus Sasser added 22, including five 3-pointers.  Hence the Cougars stifled Auburn in the second half for an 81-64 victory at the NCAA Tournament.  The Cougars wiped out a 10-point halftime deficit.

Houston played with the desperation of a national championship contender no ready to suffer the same fate as Purdue and Kansas.  Those two teams were top seeds sent home.

Sasser continued to deal with a groin injury that forced him to sit out the second half of Houston’s NCAA opener.  But the All-American was determined to go all the way in this one.  The only thing that sent him to the bench was foul trouble.  Consider the ninth-seeded Tigers were doomed by a stretch of more than 10 1/2 minutes without a field goal.  Auburn finished just 4 of 24 from the field in the second half.

On the whole, Auburn did draw plenty of fouls, only to struggle at the line with a 19-of-36 showing.  Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome led the Tigers with 14 points apiece.  Meanwhile, Sasser finished 5 of 9 beyond the arc.  Fouls were his only real issue.  The All-American guard and his running mate, point guard Jamal Shead, were forced to the bench with four fouls.  Despite the game still being in doubt.
