Desperate Michigan State Hosts Indiana Tuesday on ESPN

The Michigan State Spartans are a nearly 100% Bracketology-rated team for the NCAA Tournament.  To illuminate, the Spartans have done just enough to keep in good standing with the committee criteria.  But March Madness betting gamblers have another story to tell.  When the betting public believes in the Spartans, they flop.  And then, when gamblers give up on Michigan State, they prevail.  Hence, a lot of confusion at the betting window.  Still, Sparty has quality wins over the Kentucky Wildcats, Michigan Wolverines, Wisconsin Badgers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Maryland Terrapins.

Indiana vs. Michigan State CashBet Wagering Analysis

On this occasion, we have two of the biggest sportsbook online brands on the board.  Since their win over Purdue, the Hoosiers have caught fire to become a legitimate Big Ten title contender.  And gamblers have taken notice.  Thus, the concern of sharps is that the Hoosiers could be overpriced.  On the other hand, Michigan State can’t gain traction.  The Spartans are coming off a loss at Michigan.  And that was indicative of their inconsistency this season.

On the whole, we should get an honest line for this game.  Indiana won’t be priced out of sight as the road team.  In turn, Michigan State is a respected brand on its home court.  Of great concern is that Indiana could be peaking ahead of its rivalry matchup with Purdue on Saturday.

Hoosiers In Range of Big Ten Title

The Indiana Hoosiers are 19-8 straight up, 13-13-1 against the spread, and 14-12 over/under the 2023 March Madness Betting total.  Overall, Indiana has national rankings of 83rd for scoring offense, 6th for field goal percentage, 22nd for 3-point field goal percentage, 211th for free throw percentage, and 71st for offensive rebounding.  While on defense, Indiana has national rankings of 101st for scoring defense, 39th for field goal percentage permitted, 81st for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 111th for defensive rebounding.

Late on, Indiana failed to get the money in its last two games.  Five of its last six games went under the total.  The Hoosiers trail first place Purdue by two games in the Big Ten standings.  Trayce Jackson Davis leads IU with 20.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest.

When the Indiana Hoosiers lost at Penn State on January 11, they fell to 10-6 on the season.  Of major concern to fans and gamblers was the viability of the Hoosiers to be a serious NCAA Tournament or Big Ten contender.

Head coach Mike Woodson was under intense fire for failing to build on last year’s tournament season.  But from that low point, the Hoosiers took off.  Indiana won eight of its next nine games to climb to 14th in the national rankings.  Most important of all, they earned quality wins against the Michigan Wolverines, Purdue Boilermakers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Wisconsin Badgers, and North Carolina Tar Heels.

Spartans Plagued by Inconsistency

The Michigan State Spartans are 16-10 straight up, 13-13 against the spread, and 12-14 over/under the bet on NCAA basketball total.  In sum, Michigan State has national rankings of 269th for scoring offense, 201st for field goal percentage, 46th for 3-point field goal percentage, 70th for free throw percentage, and 124th for offensive rebounding.  While on defense, Michigan State has national rankings of 62nd for scoring defense, 36th for field goal percentage permitted, 14th for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 169th for defensive rebounding.

Michigan State failed to cover five of its previous seven games.  Also, three of their last four tilts went under the total.  Joey Hauser led MSU with 13.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest.  Michigan State lost six of its previous ten games straight up.
