First, at the Big Ten Tournament, The Hawkeyes will face the winner of Wednesday’s game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Wisconsin Badgers.  Tipoff time at United Center in Chicago, IL, is TBD on Thursday afternoon, with television coverage on BTN.  Iowa limps in with an online sportsbook loss to Nebraska in their regular season finale.

Iowa Must Become Complete Team

Overall, the Iowa Hawkeyes are 19-12 straight up, 17-14 against the spread, and 19-12 over/under the total.  Iowa has 2023 March Madness betting rankings of 20th for scoring offense, 137th for field goal percentage, 165th for 3-point field goal percentage, 110th for free throw percentage, and 63rd for offensive rebounding.  While on defense, Iowa has national rankings of 302nd for scoring defense, 349th for field goal percentage permitted, 325th for 3-point field goal percentage allowed, and 263rd for defensive rebounding.

Late on, Iowa failed to cover six of its final nine bet on NCAA basketball matchups.  The Hawkeyes went over the total in four of its final six games.  Kris Murray leads Iowa with 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.

Sam Griesel scored 16 points.  In comparison, C.J. Wilcher broke a tie with five key points late in the game.  In turn, hot-shooting Nebraska defeated Iowa 81-77 on Sunday to close out the Big Ten regular season.

Wilcher scored on the fast break, then added a 3-pointer for an 80-75 Nebraska lead with 2:33 remaining.  The Cornhuskers committed fouls on their next three possessions.  But Iowa came up empty except for two free throws by Kris Murray.  Nebraska made only 1-3 free throws in the final minute.  However, Iowa failed to capitalize on the other end.  Nebraska shot 60% in the second half (58.5% for the game) and made 8 of 12 3-pointers after halftime.

Patrick McCaffery had 23 points off the bench for Iowa.  And then Murray added 22 points with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Filip Rebraca added 10 points but missed two key free throws in the final minute.  In turn, Iowa made 9-21 3-pointers in the first half but only 3 of 16 in the second half.

McCaffery made five of Iowa’s nine 3-pointers in the first half.  And he scored 16 points to lead the Hawkeyes to a 43-39 halftime lead.  Griesel had 14 points and Tominaga 11 for the Cornhuskers, who kept it close by shooting 57% before halftime.  Correlate that the 2023 March Madness Betting loss ended Iowa’s seven-game home winning streak.

The game was a letdown spot for the Hawkeyes.  Following Iowa’s 90-68 road win over the Indiana Hoosiers.  At Indiana, Kris Murray scored 26 points.  Meanwhile, Tony Perkins flirted with the first triple-double in school history.  And the Hawkeyes never trailed in a 90-68 rout.  To be exact, the Hawkeyes did everything right.

In sum, Murray made five of Iowa’s 13 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds.  Perkins finished with 23 points, ten rebounds, and a career-high eight assists.  Most important of all, the conference’s highest-scoring team actually played some defense.   It was a rare occasion for the Hawkeyes this campaign.
