France Overcomes Morocco
The early goal set the top online sportsbook tone for France. But Morocco dominated possession and had some decent looks to equalize. Morocco was the Cinderella of the tournament. They became the first African team to make it to the semifinals. Meanwhile, France overcame numerous pre-tournament injuries. Including Ballon d’Or striker Karim Benzema, to make it back to the big game.
France Wins in Unimpressive Fashion
This wasn’t a World Cup odds game that France dominated. Despite what the scoreline might say, they deserved to win. Morocco dictated the pace of the game with 61% possession and was just a few key passes away from getting a goal. Specifically, credit goes to France defensively. Although the backline faced 13 shots, there weren’t many moments where it felt like Morocco would truly score.
In sum, it was a physical game between two impressive teams. France did more than enough. Despite not seeing much of the ball. They’ll be sore leading up to the final after receiving quite a few overly tough challenges. But they’ll replenish themselves for one last time. Accordingly, on Sunday, they can be the first team to repeat as World Cup champions since Brazil in 1962.
France vs. Argentina Matchup
All it took was five minutes late in the first half for Argentina to score a quickfire double. Thus they booked their place in the Betting the World Cup final. Argentina routed Croatia 3-0 in the semifinals on Tuesday. Despite seemingly having hamstring issues during the first half of the match, Lionel Messi was unstoppable. Messi scored from the spot. And then Julian Alvarez scored twice in the lopsided victory. Messi’s penalty came from a rare mistake from Dominik Lovankovic, who clattered into Alvarez in the box.
So it was another match and another dominant performance for Messi. Despite everything that he has done during his career, things feel different with Messi during this World Cup. Indeed, the genius is dialed in and ready to strike.
Additionally, Messi has risen to the challenge for the Golden Boot in Qatar. Creating two chances and taking two shots, Messi may not have been involved often. But he picked his spots and made Croatia pay. Messi’s assist to Alvarez was excellent. Also, if not for some big saves in the match, it could’ve been an even bigger win for his Argentina side.
Overall, Argentina is going to want the ball as much as possible. And gamblers can expect to see them go with five at the back line. But sitting back to defend and then going on the counter in this one could encourage France to match.
As mentioned earlier, France had Morocco bombarding them in an attack. However, Morocco is much different than facing Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez. So it will be told early on in the final just exactly how France will approach it. But, to their credit, they’ve looked sharp no matter what the Betting on the World Cup style.
Most important of all in this match is for France to play a bit smarter. Especially when Les Bleus challenge. In particular, the French must be flawless in the box. Les Bleus gave up two penalties to England in the quarterfinals.
