Oilers Host Lightning on ESPN Thursday

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Edmonton Oilers Information

At the onset, gamblers would not have been surprised about a Stanley Cup Final between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers.  Last year Edmonton made it to the Western Conference final.  In comparison, Tampa Bay lost to the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final.  The Lightning was the 2-time defending champion in that NHL betting series.  So far, Tampa Bay has had the more impressive campaign in 2022-23.  Edmonton is on the playoff bubble.  But the Oilers boast the best player on Earth, Connor McDavid.  And that is why many gamblers are keeping their faith in Edmonton.

Lightning vs. Oilers CashBet Wagering Analysis

On this occasion, we have two of the biggest betting on NHL brands.  Tampa Bay has massive credibility with the betting public based on three consecutive appearances in the Stanley Cup Final and two championships.  By contrast, Edmonton is losing much of the equity it built up with gamblers last spring when they made the Western Conference Final.  Gamblers have grown tired of the Oilers’ lack of reliability on the board.

On the whole, this is a matchup where sharps and squares will split both ways.  Edmonton will get a lower price than normal at home.  Cause by the brand cache of the Lightning.  And Tampa Bay will get a price break on the road against a respected home club.  Thus, gamblers can expect an honest line without too much public influence either way.

Lighting Strikes Sportsbooks for Cash Run

Late on, the Tampa Bay Lighting won six of their previous eight games.  Only one of their last five games stayed under the total.

So far, Tampa Bay has a Bitcoin Sportsbook record of 9-9 on the road.  The Lightning is 26-13-1 straight up and 18-22 over/under.  Tampa Bay ranks

4th for goal scoring, 13th and 2nd for power play efficiency.  While defensively, the Lightning ranks 15th for goals against and 11th for penalty killing.  Tampa Bay is in 3rd place in the Atlantic Division.

Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy remains the catalyst of the Lightning with a .917 save percentage.  Center Brayden Point is the top Tampa Bay goal scorer with 23 goals.

Edmonton on an Oil Slick in Recent Stretch of Red Ink

Late on, the Edmonton Oilers lost four of their previous six games.  Three of their last five pro hockey betting matchups went over the total.

Edmonton is 22-18-3 straight up and 21-22 over/under.  Of great concern is that Edmonton is 10-11-2 on home ice.  Edmonton is in 5th place in the Pacific Division.

Overall, Edmonton ranks 5th for goal scoring, 14th, and 1st for power play efficiency.  While defensively, Edmonton ranks 21st for goals against and 27th for penalty killing.

Namely, center Connor McDavid continues to light up the marquee for Edmonton.  McDavid leads Edmonton with 35 goals, 44 assists, and a +2.  He has 14 power-play goals and 25 power-play assists.  Additionally, center Leon Draisaitl has added 23 goals, 40 assists, and a ++3.  Draisaitl has 15 power-play goals and 17 power-play assists.  Yet another key contributor is center Ryan Nugent Hopkins.  So far, Hopkins has 20 goals with 30 assists.  And then left wing Zach Hyman has added 20 goals with 24 assists.

Of major concern has been the drop in hockey betting production from 2022 playoff hero Evander Kane.  Kane has a wrist injury and has played in only 14 games with five goals.

But goaltending has been a big problem for the Oil.  Jack Campbell arrived with great fanfare but has bombed with a .879 save percentage.

In this situation, Edmonton is not in good NHL gambling form.  Especially compared to a Tamp Bay team that is gunning for another Stanley Cup.
