At first, many casual gamblers see the Blues as a big, tough, physical team. St. Louis played a heavy brand of hockey when it won the 2019 Stanley Cup championship. But those who think the Blues have maintained the style of play are wrong. Additionally, the Blues are no longer reliant upon Jordan Binnington for their NHL betting success. St. Louis is much quicker and high-flying than three years ago. And Binnington lost his starting job as a goalie. Now the question is if the new-look Blues can get past a determined Minnesota Wild club.

CashBet Wagering Analysis – Home Ice Advantage or Overlay?
At the beginning of this series, the Blues were solid online sportsbook favorites. Much of that was based on their domination of the Wild. St. Louis has bossed the cashier’s cage in their series with Minnesota. But after the Wild and Blues split their first two games, those records didn’t matter as much.
Home ice is not the betting on NHL advantage that many gamblers believe it to be. In fact, there are times when home ice seems like a liability. Home court in the NBA has proven far more valuable than home ice in the NHL. Still, most coaches and players prefer the comforts of home. Not to mention a packed and loud home crowd like St. Louis fans will provide.
Oddsmakers are aware of the myth and reality of home ice. As a result, there is usually an extra pro hockey betting price to pay for taking the home team. Gamblers have to assess how much they are willing to pay for the Blues’ home ice “advantage.” And if a capable Minnesota team offers more value as the away dog.
A Wild Run for Minnesota
The Minnesota Wild has shown far better than expected in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Head coach Dean Evason replaced the popular Bruce Boudreau two years ago. The move was not well-received. But Evason has won over a lot of his early critics. Boudreau was fired in large part because general manager Bill Guerin did not originally hire him. Guerin wanted his own man all along. Thus, he waited, and then when the Wild were struggling to maintain consistency, he hired Evason.
Once upon a time, the Wild were justifiably known for being the most boring team in the NHL. Boudreau began to change that, and Evason has continued the project. Certainly, the Wild has much different metrics than in the past. Minnesota ranked 5th in NHL for goal scoring this season compared to 16th for goals against.
So far in the playoffs, Kirill Kaprizov leads the Wild with five goals and one assist with a plus-four. Joel Eriksson Ek adds three goals, two assists, and a plus-three. And newly acquired goalie Marc Andre Fleury boasts a .914 save percentage in the postseason.
A New Note for Blues
Jordan Binnington was the Stanley Cup hero in goal for the Blues. But his inconsistent play cost him his job. However, Ville Husso struggled with a .906 save percentage in his first four playoff games. St. Louis expects more from both.
Wild at Blues By the Angles
St. Louis has dominated its hockey betting series with Minnesota. To show, the Blues have won 15 of their last 20 games against the Wild. Nine of the previous 12 games between these teams have gone over the total. Specifically at St. Louis, the Blues have won seven of their last eight games against the Wild. Five of the previous eight games between these teams at Enterprise Center have gone over the total.

In this situation, the Blues should respond to their home crowd as usual. St. Louis is one of the NHL’s better home values for NHL gambling.
