Avalanche vs. Blues NHL 2022 PlayoffSecond Round Betting Odds

2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round – Western Conference Colorado Avalanche vs. St. Louis Blues

Following a game three win at St. Louis on Saturday, the Avalanche have a 2-1 series lead.  Game four takes place Monday night in St. Louis.  Of great concern to the Blues is the potential loss of goaltender Jordan Binnington.  Colorado forward Nazem Kadri barreled into Binnington with the likely influence of a Blues defenseman.  Kadri has the NHL Playoff odds reputation for deliberately running players.  But the replay was inconclusive as to if it was deliberate.  Binnington is questionable for the rest of the series and is being evaluated.  Now comes the question of motivation and ability.

Colorado Avalanche vs. St. Louis Blues CashBet Odds Analysis

At the beginning of this series, the Avalanche were already the best sportsbook online favorites.  Now with the 2-1 series lead and the Blues’ top goalie injured, that is exacerbated.  Colorado is the top seed in the Western Conference.  And the Avalanche are universally acclaimed for having the speed and skill advantage.

Thus, the public already preferred Colorado with the betting on NHL Playoffs.  Sharps are giving the Blues a hard look for the rest of the series.  Colorado’s price for the rest of the series is excessive in the minds of Wise Guys.  It is an obvious attempt by the oddsmakers to even out the action on both sides.  To show, the guys setting the odds know that the public will stampede the betting window for action on the Avs.  Wise Guys believe that the Blues make for a compelling and capable underdog.

St. Louis Sings the Blues Between the Pipes

At the onset of Stanley Cup Playoffs betting, Ville Husso was the St. Louis starting goalie.  Husso had a vastly better regular season over former starter Jordan Binnington.  Binnington has never matched his level of play when he backstopped the Blues to the 2019 Stanley Cup championship.

As was previously noted by us in other NHL articles, playoff hockey is an entirely different sport from regular season hockey.  And Ville Husso got a taste of that in the opening round against the Minnesota Wild.  To illustrate, the same Husso that dominated the regular season with a save percentage of .919 has fallen to .891 in the playoffs.

Husso entered game three when the Blues led 1-0 6:45 into the game.  But he allowed four goals in 23 shots in a weak performance.  Binnington knows how to win in the playoffs.  Husso does not.  But Binnington is not expected back for game four, if at all, in this series.  Husso now finds a fork in the road moment for his season.  He must rise to the occasion or go down as the reason why the Blues lost the series.

Avalanche vs. Blues Betting Trends

Late on, the Avalanche have visited the payout window in six of their last seven games.  Colorado has dominated their series with the Blues.  To show, the Avalanche have won eight of their previous ten games against St. Louis.  On the road, the Avs have gone over the total in four of their most recent six games.

Meanwhile, St. Louis has gotten the cash in four of their most recent six games.  The Blues and Avalanche have gone over the total in seven of their previous nine matchups.  Specifically, at Enterprise Center, the Blues have won eight of their last 12 tilts.  The Blues and Avs are 5-1 over the total at St. Louis.

To be exact, should the Blues pull off an NHL gambling win in game four, this will be anyone’s series.  And Jordan Binnington could still return.  Colorado’s price is too high.
