Astros Host Rangers in Friday Apple TV Action

MLB Betting: Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros odds and picks

So far in the young season, the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros are meeting expectations.  Houston was expected to contend for the American League pennant.  Following almost two months of action, the Astros are delivering on those MLB betting odds expectations.  Not much was expected out of the Rangers for the 2022 campaign.  And Texas is meeting those low expectations as well.  On Friday night, the Astros will host the Rangers on Apple TV.  Naturally, the Astros will be popular betting favorites for this matchup.  The question is whether Texas can offer any value as a dog.

CashBet Wagering Analysis – Rangers a Tough Sell in This Spot

In this situation, the Rangers will likely get an enhanced online sportsbook price.  Texas is fighting to stay out of the American League West Division basement.  In comparison, Houston leads that same division.  Texas has not been an attractive team to gamblers in quite some time.  Counter to that is a Houston team making money and bringing championship credibility.

Of great concern to gamblers will be the Houston price.  The Astros are a perennial playoff power team against a bad Rangers club at home.  That means the masses will be stampeding the betting window for action on Houston.  Specifically, squares will not step into Houston at home with the Texas Rangers.  Meanwhile, sharps will not lay a ridiculous price on the home side.  Regardless of how bad the Rangers are.  For this reason, the run line could be the play for sharps.

Astros Reach Winning Orbit

Late on, the Astros have won eight of their most recent ten games.  Eight of those games went over the betting on baseball total.  Houston is 23-13 with 10-26 under the total.  Specifically, the Astros are 9-4 with 4-9 under the total at home.  Houston ranks 12th for run production, 4th for home runs, 3rd for earned run average, and 3rd for bullpen earned run average.

Rangers in the Red

Texas has split its last ten games with the MLB betting lines.  Only two of their previous seven games went under the total.  As a result, the Rangers are 15-19 with 15-17-2 under the total.  Texas is a surprising 7-7 on the road with 6-8 under the total.  The Rangers rank 17th for run production, 14th for home runs, 23rd for earned run average, and 15th for bullpen earned run average.

Rangers at Astros Pitching Matchup

Lefty Martin Perez is the probable starter for the Rangers.  So far, his baseball betting record is 2-2 with a 2.01 earned run average and 1.02 WHIP.  Last year with Boston, Perez was 7-8 with a 4.74 earned run average and 1.51 WHIP.

Righty Cristian Javier is expected to start for the Astros.  Thus far, Javier is 2-1 with a 3.20 earned run average and 1.11 WHIP.  This is Javier’s first full season in the Houston rotation.  Rafael Montero is the current closer, with Ryan Pressly on injured reserve.  Overall, Montero has a 1-0 record with three saves in three opportunities.  Montero brings an earned run average of 0.61 with an 0.82 WHIP.

Rangers and Astros Bring Variety of Weapons

Texas shortstop Corey Seager is giving the Rangers quite a boost at the plate.  Seager has produced 16 runs, seven home runs, and 17 runs batted in.  In like manner, Houston designated hitter Yordan Alvarez was ripping the hide off the ball.  Alvarez produced 21 runs, three doubles, 11 home runs, and 21 runs batted in, with a .571 slugging percentage and .927 OPS.

As mentioned earlier, the Astros are the better team but come at an MLB gambling price that is too expensive.  Houston makes the most sense with the run line.
