Minnesota to Face Syracuse in Pinstripe Bowl, Betting Odds and Analysis

At the beginning of the 2022 season, the Minnesota Golden Gophers were a hot NCAAF bets future market property.  Minnesota was touted as the team to beat in the Big Ten West division.  Minnesota had a loaded roster of experienced star players returning.  However, the Golden Gophers’ lack of depth was revealed when injuries took their toll.  Certainly, that is a flaw allowed by coach PJ Fleck.  It is true that Fleck has moved the needle a bit in his tenure.  Of course, his 2019 team was the best in over five decades at Minnesota.

2022 Pinstripe Bowl CashBet Overview

Minnesota is the more popular best Sportsbook Online brand in the casual sector.  Minnesota has the appeal of being a winning Big Ten program.  Additionally, the poor finish by Syracuse damaged them in the eyes of the squares.  Neither team distinguished itself at the payout window in 2022.  Of major concern is that Syracuse lost its defensive coordinator and other top assistant coaches.

Gophers Golden When it Mattered Most

Last game, the Minnesota Golden Gophers won 23-16 against the Wisconsin Badgers as 3-point road dogs.  The game went over the Betting on College Football total of 37.  Minnesota has a record of 8-4 straight up, 7-5 against the spread, and 4-7 over/under the total.  Minnesota ranks 57th for total offense, 114th for passing, 11th for rushing, and 70th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 6th overall, 8th against the pass, 14th against the rush, and 5th for points allowed.  Also, Minnesota ranks 21st for fewest turnovers lost and 24th for takeaways.

Athan Kaliakmanis connected with Le’Meke Brockington on a tiebreaking 45-yard touchdown with 3:40 remaining.  And then Minnesota barely hung on in the final minute to beat Wisconsin.  As a result, Minnesota beat the Badgers in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1993-94.  After losing to Wisconsin 14 straight times from 2004-17, the Gophers have won three of the last five matchups.

In sum, Kaliakmanis ended up 19 of 29 for 319 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in his third game filling in for Tanner Morgan.  Specifically, Morgan was out with an upper-body injury.  The performance was a major step forward for Kaliakmanis, who was 7 of 15 for 87 yards with an interception last week in a 13-10 loss to Iowa.

Since their landmark 2019 campaign, the Golden Gophers have been more off than on.  Of great annoyance is that Minnesota has not lived up to the hype that their carnival barker head coach is famous for.

Syracuse Backs Dino Into Bowl Game

Last game, the Syracuse Orange won 32-23 against the Boston College Eagles as 10.5-point road favorites.  The game went over the bet on NCAAF total of 47.5.  Syracuse has a record of 7-5 straight up, 6-6 against the spread, and 5-7 over/under the total.  Syracuse ranks 89th for total offense, 76th for passing, 79th for rushing, and 67th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 29th overall, 19th against the pass, 68th against the rush, and 35th for points allowed.  Also, Syracuse ranks 11th for fewest turnovers lost and 60th for takeaways.

Consider that Syracuse hadn’t won in more than a month.  And the Orange trailed by 11 in the regular-season finale.  That’s when the Orange snapped out of it and snapped a five-game skid.

Namely, Garrett Shrader completed 21 of 27 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns.  While Syracuse scored 26 straight points to overcome a two-score, fourth-quarter deficit.  Oronde Gadsden II caught six passes for 106 yards.  Additionally, Damien Alford caught four for 83 yards and the go-ahead score for the Orange.  Sean Tucker ran for 125 yards and two TDs to help Syracuse win its first game since Oct. 15.
