BYU Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake has proven to be the proverbial College football betting perfect fit. Sitake has led his alma mater to consecutive double-digit win seasons and top-19 finishes. Consider that Sitake has the program on such a good trajectory that BYU was invited to join the Big 12 Conference. BYU accepted and is expected to join the Big 12 in 2023. Since 2011 the Cougars have been an independent after years in the Western Athletic and later the Mountain West Conferences. But the program should thrive next year in the Big 12.

BYU Cougars – A History to Bank and Build On
The BYU Cougars have a proud history. Including the 1984 national championship and a host of marquee men at the quarterback position. The founding father of the BYU program is the late great LaVell Edwards. Edwards took over in 1972 and knew he had to do something different to set the program apart. So Edwards developed one of the most prolific passing attacks in college football history.
It was Edwards that made the Cougars into a national power and the 1984 national champions. BYU became a national brand under Edwards’ leadership. That has lived on to this day. Despite the Cougars no longer winning at the same rate.
BYU has a litany of strong quarterbacks in its history. Namely, Gifford Nielsen, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, and Ty Detmer are all in the College Football Hall of Fame. Recently, Zach Wilson was the second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
CashBet Odds Analysis – Big 12 in Sight for Cougars
BYU thought it could bank on a large Mormon population and following to become the Notre Dame of the LDS Church in football. While that has not happened, the Cougars have exceeded online sportsbook expectations. The 2021 season will be spent in preparation for the move to the Big 12.
Gamblers are taking notice of the Cougars on the Betting on college football board. Sitake has improved the program to compete against most Power Five programs. And there is even the return of BYU to its roots as “Quarterback U.”
BYU Cougars 2022 Prospects
Last year the BYU Cougars had a depleted roster and a tough schedule. Thus, BYU was touted to be in a bet on NCAAF rebuilding mode in 2021. Instead, the Cougars defeated six Power Five programs. Including a mark of 5–0 against the Pac-12. BYU scored a convincing 26–17 win over Utah, who ended up in the Rose Bowl. Overall, they put together another outstanding season. The only real blemish was a 31–28 upset loss to UAB in the Independence Bowl.
As mentioned earlier, the 2022 campaign will be BYU’s last as a college football independent. But the 2022 Cougars are not rebuilding. To illuminate, BYU returns 18 of 22 starters. Thus, Betting on NCAAF expectations are high for the Cougars.
Injuries are a key factor in how the 2022 campaign goes. Last year, injuries derailed a potentially special BYU season. The Cougars were headed toward another 11- or 12-win campaign until several key stars could not finish.
Whenever BYU has a senior quarterback, the Cougars roll offensively. And that figures to be the case in 2022. Accordingly, Jaren Hall is listed as a junior on BYU’s roster. But this will be his fifth season in Provo. And likely his last. The Cougars could be a scoring machine in 2022. Consider that BYU’s offense was highly productive in 2021. Most important of all, nearly all of its lineup will be back.
