2021 Las Vegas Bowl Wisconsin Badgers vs. Arizona State Sun Devils Betting Picks

2021 Las Vegas Bowl Wisconsin Badgers vs. Arizona State Sun Devils

On the whole, it was a tale of two College football betting seasons for the Wisconsin Badgers.  First was a horrendous 1-3 start that had the state up in arms.  And it was 4-star quarterback Graham Mertz that was under the spotlight.  Mertz was a turnover machine in the first month of the season, and it looked like Wisconsin would struggle to make a minor bowl. However, head coach Paul Chryst went back to the future.  Chryst implemented Wisconsin’s tried and true formula of Neanderball, and the program quickly got back on track.

2021 Las Vegas Bowl CashBet Odds Analysis

In this situation, Wisconsin will earn the most best sportsbook online support based on its superior brand.  Consider the Badgers’ consistent winning over the past 30 years compared to Arizona State’s instability.

Sun Devils Enter Las Vegas Bowl on High Note

Last game, Arizona State routed Arizona 38-15 as 20-point home favorites.  The game went to a push on the Betting on college football total of 53.  As a result, Arizona State is 8-4 straight up, 5-7 against the spread, and 4-7 over/under.  Arizona State ranks 67th for total offense and 57th for scoring offense.  Defensively, the Sun Devils rank 21st overall and 26th for points allowed.

Badgers Settle for Consolation After Bad Ending at Minnesota

Last time out, Minnesota beat Wisconsin 23-13 as 7-point home dogs.  The Badgers and Golden Gophers game went under the bet on NCAAF total of 39.  As a result, Wisconsin has a record of 8-4 straight up, 6-6 against the spread, and 6-6 over/under.  Overall, Wisconsin ranks 86th for total offense and 86th for scoring offense.  While defensively, the Badgers rank 2nd overall and 5th for points allowed.

Minnesota QB Tanner Morgan overcame an interception that was returned for a first-half touchdown.  Subsequently, he led three scoring drives after halftime to take down the Badgers.

In sum, Wisconsin had only 160 total yards over the final three quarters and three points after halftime. They turned the ball over on downs on their last two possessions.

Braelon Allen Stats

Overall, Freshman standout Braelon Allen was limited to 47 yards on 17 rushes. He topped the 100-yard mark in each of the last seven games; all wins for Wisconsin.  But the Badgers had 62 rushing yards after averaging 269 yards on the ground during their winning streak.

Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz went 21 for 38 for 171 yards and an interception. The sophomore smoothed out his season after turnovers were a major factor in the 1-3 start.

Specifically, power running and stout defense remain the Wisconsin success formula.   But Minnesota stacked a wall against the Badgers last week to ruin their Big Ten title hopes.

It has often been stated that no college football program knows itself better than Wisconsin.  Certainly, the Badgers know who they are and what they can and can’t do.  And that was part of the reason for their poor start.  Wisconsin got away from its power running formula.  Instead, they tried to implement a sophisticated passing attack for Mertz.

Most impressive about Wisconsin’s renewal is that Mertz was a far more effective quarterback when protected by the power run game.  Defenses have to honor the Wisconsin rushing attack.  Thus, they can’t tee-off on Mertz, and his play-action passes.  Enemy defenses are again on their toes as they have been in the past.  Minnesota defied the norm and made for a frustrating day.
