UFC on ESPN 38 Betting: Magny vs. Rakhmonov Game Analysis, Odds and Betting Picks (Saturday, June 25th, 2022)

Neil Magny vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov

Welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov looks to extend his 15-fight unbeaten streak but he will have his hands full against veteran Neil Magny in UFC on ESPN 38 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, June 25. The fight is scheduled before the main event clash between Arman Tsarukyan at Mateusz Gamrot. The Uzbekistan-born Rakhmonov, who is now a citizen of Kazakhstan, aims to climb up the 170-pound ladder as he is ranked 15th. The former M-1 champion is having an impressive stint in the UFC since debuting in the world-famous octagon in October 2020. He had wins against Alex Oliveira, Michel Prazeres and Carlston Harris; all of these victories were either by knockout or submission.

Meanwhile, Magny is one of the top stars in the welterweight ranks as he has fought the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit, Kelvin Gastelum and Robbie Lawler. He has been in the UFC for nine years and he is the number 10 contender in the 170-pound class. UFC fight odds favor Rakhmonov over Magny due to his world-class knockout and submission skills. However, the Kazakh fighter has not fought past the third round in his fight career, unlike Magny who has fought past the third round three times. Rakhmonov’s conditioning will likely be tested in this fight as the American knows how to take his time and score valuable points when the match lasts longer.

Neil Magny

Veteran Neil Magny (26-8) has fought in the UFC since 2013. Magny has had matches with former champions Johny Hendricks, Rafael dos Anjos, Carlos Condit and Robbie Lawler. Currently ranked 10th in the welterweight contendership rankings, the Brooklyn-born Magny has received three performance of the night bonuses and is tied for the most wins in a calendar year with five victories in 2014.

He is also joint first with UFC great Georges St-Pierre in most wins in UFC welterweight history with 19. Magny’s conditioning is world-class as he has lasted the distance in most of his bouts. In his last two fights, the American decisioned Max Griffin and Geoff Neal to set up the fight against Rakhmonov.Magny needs to be cerebral in his approach against the up-and-coming Kazakh, who is known for his submission and knockout skills. He must endure Rakhmonov’s attacks to stand a chance of winning his third straight bout and move up the rankings.

Shavkat Rakhmonov

Former M-1 welterweight champion Shavkat Bakhtibaevich Rakhmonov (15-0) has been impressive in his three UFC fights since making his octagon debut in October 2020. Rakhmonov defeated Alex Oliveria by guillotine choke in the first round then followed it up with a rear-naked choke victory over Michel Prazeres eight months later. He returned to the octagon in February with a one-round knockout of Carlston Harris.

His spinning hook-kick stunned Harris and the Kazakh followed it up with a barrage of punches that knocked his opponent out cold. The victory earned him the performance of the night honors. Despite his unbeaten record, he has yet to be tested and possibly, the match against Magny will show how ready Rakhmonov is for the big leagues. His punching and submission skills are well documented but his defense against a world-class foe in Magny will go under the microscope as this is his first acid test in the UFC.
