Oregon and Oklahoma to Meet in Alabama Bowl Betting (12/29/2021)

2021 Alamo Bowl CashBet Odds Analysis and Picks

At the onset of the season, the Oklahoma Sooners were riding high.  Coach Lincoln Riley was celebrated as the ultimate quarterback whisper.  And quarterback Spencer Rattler was a Heisman Trophy favorite.  And after a 5-0 College football betting start, the Sooners met Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout.  Although they were undefeated and ranked in playoff position, Rattler was off the mark.  Against Texas, the Sooners fell behind big and early.  Riley decided to pull Rattler.  Since then, Rattler entered the transfer portal, and Riely defected to USC.  It was a December to remember at OU.

2021 Alamo Bowl CashBet Odds Analysis

On the whole, Oklahoma is the bigger online sportsbook brand in this matchup.  Oregon may get some bargain hunter support as a quality underdog.  Oklahoma will have a much larger fan contingent at this game.

Not a Ducky End for Oregon

Last time out, Oregon was destroyed by Utah 38-10 as 3-point dogs.  Under the total of 57 paid too.  At stake was the Pac 12 Championship.  Oregon has a Betting on college football record of 10-3 straight up, 5-8 vs. the odds, and 6-7 under the total.  To show, the Ducks rank 54th for total offense and 45th for scoring.  Defensively Oregon ranks 55th overall and 60th for points allowed.

Sooner Schooner Rolls in Uncertain Future

Oklahoma lost at Oklahoma State 37-33 as a 4-point dog in their regular-season finale.  The Sooners and Cowboys game went over the bet on NCAAF total of 51.  As a result, Oklahoma has a record of 10-2 straight up, 5-6-1 against the spread, and 7-5 over/under. Oklahoma ranks 29th for total offense and 12th for scoring offense.  While defensively, the Sooners rank 70th overall and 58th for points allowed.

Caleb Williams has proven to be an upgrade wat quarterback.  Specifically, Wiliams brings better running ability and deep passing touch.  But the once touted OU defense has slipped too.  All of it made for a frustrating season.  Williams started so well that he, too, became a Heisman favorite.  But Oklahoma has not played the same level of complimentary football as in the past.  Defense was a team strength for the past couple of seasons.  This year it’s been inconsistent and has forced the offense to bail OU out of several situations.

Of course, for most programs, the Oklahoma campaign of 2021 would be cause for wild celebration.  Such are the near-impossible standards that have to be met in Norman.  And then, with the eventual move to the SEC upcoming, Riley has the added challenge of getting his program up to par for a more difficult schedule and recruiting wars.

Oklahoma State’s Collin Oliver sacked Williams on fourth down at the Oklahoma State 32 with eight seconds remaining.  Thus it set off a wild celebration. Fans clad in orange and black poured onto the field to celebrate coach Mike Gundy’s third win in 17 tries against the Sooners. Songs such as ”Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks and ”All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled blared over the sound system.

It wasn’t easy for the Cowboys. Though Oklahoma State entered the game ranked second nationally in scoring defense and third in total defense, Williams threw three touchdown passes in the first half.  But the famed “Sooner Magic” never materialized when needed most.

Of great concern is Oregon’s motivational factor for this Betting on NCAAF.  The Ducks are playing for an interim coach and will be far away with few fans.  Oklahoma interim coach Bob Stoops is a beloved legend.  Thousands of OU fans will cross the state border to support the Sooners.
