Iowa State vs. Texas CashBet Wagering Analysis

Once upon a time, Matt Campbell was coaching in relative obscurity at Iowa State.  But in 2020, Campbell led the Cyclones to the greatest NCAAF bets season in school history.  Since that epic season, Campbell has been a leading brand on the coaching carousel.  Iowa State is a historically difficult school to win at.  Hence, fans and gamblers believe Campbell should have gotten out when the getting was good.  Campbell has been able to sustain an element of success.  But championship dreams resemble a lottery ticket at ISU.  This week brings another high-profile challenge at Texas.

Iowa State vs. Texas CashBet Wagering Analysis

Iowa State is a favorite program of top online sportsbook sharps.  Wise Guys love the Cyclones as road of underdogs.  In particular, Iowa State shows consistent value as a road dog with bite.  Despite over a decade of mediocrity, Texas remains a name-brand program.  Certainly, that’s the case when they are home favorites against programs that have less of a name brand.

Campbell and Cyclones In the Soup

Last game, the Iowa State Cyclones lost 10-9 against the Kansas State Wildcats as 1-point home dogs.  The game went under the Betting on College Football total of 45.  Iowa State has a record of 3-3 straight up, 2-3-1 against the spread, and 2-4 over/under the total.  ISU ranks 96th for total offense, 50th for passing, 116th for rushing, and 103rd for scoring.  Defensively they rank 11th overall, 24th against the pass, 13th against the rush, and 8th for points allowed.  Also, Iowa State ranks 46th for fewest turnovers lost and 83rd for takeaways.

K-State QB Adrian Martinez passed for 246 yards and rushed for 77.  Chris Tennant kicked a 30-yard field goal with 7:14 left in the fourth quarter to provide the winning margin.  Phillip Brooks finished with 119 yards on four receptions.  And then Malik Knowles made five catches for 108.  Martinez finished 12-of-19 passing and rushed 19 times.  Namely, Brooks and Knowles were the first Kansas State receiving tandem to each go over 100 yards in a Big 12 game since 2014.

Jace Gilbert made three field goals to give Iowa State a 9-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.  Gilbert missed three times a week earlier at Kansas.  Including a potential game-tying kink in the closing seconds.

Longhorns Hook Arch Rival

Last game, the Texas Longhorns won 49-0 against the Oklahoma Sooners as 7.5-point favorites.  The game went under the bet on NCAAF total of 64.5.  Texas has a record of 4-2 straight up, 5-1 against the spread, and 2-4 over/under the total.  Texas ranks 37th for total offense, 37th for passing, 47th for rushing, and 20th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 34th overall, 51st against the pass, 42nd against the rush, and 23rd for points allowed.  Also, Texas ranks 13th for fewest turnovers lost and 91st for takeaways.

Quinn Ewers threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in his Texas return.  At the same time, Bijan Robinson ran for 130 yards with two TDs.  To be exact, Texas handed Oklahoma its most-lopsided shutout loss ever.

While Ewers was back, the Sooners were without starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel.  Gabriel didn’t play a week after getting hit in the head and knocked out of the TCU game with a concussion.  Subsequently, Pitt transfer Davis Beville got the start.  But Oklahoma opted for numerous wildcat plays without the quarterback.

Overall, Ewers completed 14 of his first 16 passes and finished 21 of 31.  Texas had two 90-yard scoring drives in the first quarter.  The Longhorns had a balanced 585 yards of offense, with 289 passing and 296 rushing.
