Clemson Meets North Carolina in ACC Championship Game Betting

North Carolina vs. Clemson CashBet Wagering Analysis

Clemson ended up having another decent season and is back in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.  Following their absence in 2021.   But the Tigers are nowhere near their past national championship form.  Although the Tigers looked like an NCAAF bets contender for College Football Playoff, nobody believed they belonged.  Clemson’s offense has made a marginal improvement.  But it’s hardly explosive.  By contrast, the defense remains very good but is no longer dominant as it was in their championship campaigns of the past.  The Tigers will face North on Saturday for the ACC championship.

Tar Heels Coming off Tough Overtime Loss

Last game, the North Carolina Tar Heels lost 30-27 against the NC State Wolfpack as 6.5-point home favorites.  The game went over the betting on College Football total of 56.  North Carolina has a record of 9-3 straight up, 6-6 against the spread, and 6-6 over/under the total.  North Carolina ranks 11th for total offense, 8th for passing, 61st for rushing, and 15th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 117th overall, 118th against the pass, 89th against the rush, and 104th for points allowed.  Also, North Carolina ranks 52nd for fewest turnovers lost and 93rd for takeaways.

Ben Finley threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start.  And then NC State beat North Carolina when Noah Burnette kicked a 35-yard field goal try in the second overtime.  Drake Maye connected with Antoine Green from 4 yards out on the final regulation play to tie the game at 24-all.  But NC State kept the ACC Coastal Division champion Tar Heels out of the end zone in the first overtime.

Devin Carter had six receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown for the Wolfpack.  Correlate that NC State snapped a two-game skid.  Drake Maye finished 29 of 49 for 233 yards, one interception, and the tying TD toss on fourth-and-goal to Green.

Clemson Upset vs. Home by South Carolina

Last game, the Clemson Tigers lost 31-30 against the South Carolina Gamecocks as 14-point home favorites.  The game went over the bet on NCAAF total of 53.  Clemson has a record of 10-2 straight up, 6-6 against the spread, and 7-5 over/under the total.  Clemson ranks 54th for total offense, 86th for passing, 39th for rushing, and 27th for scoring.  Defensively they rank 24th overall, 73rd against the pass, 10th against the rush, and 28th for points allowed.  Also, Clemson ranks 125th for fewest turnovers lost and 52nd for takeaways.

South Carolina has played in the shadow of two-time national champion Clemson for the past nine years.  To illustrate, they lost the past seven against the Tigers.  And Clemson had been on a 40-game winning streak at home.  But the Gamecocks rallied from 14-0 down after 10 minutes to beat Clemson for the first time since 2013.  Hence, South Carolina and Spencer Rattler ended Clemson’s chance at a playoff berth.

Clemson was looking to set a series record with its eighth in a row over South Carolina.  And the Tigers were up 30-21 midway through the third period after Will Shipley’s 11-yard burst to the end zone.  However, Clemson had no answer after South Carolina took the lead.  The Tigers managed only 15 yards on three series as DJ Uiagalelei went a combined 0-of-6 passing with an interception.  Finally, Clemson got the ball back with 2:09 left.  But Antonio Williams fumbled on a punt return, and South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori recovered.
